Ένα γράμμα :: A Letter

This Letter was received by a Committee member from relatives in the Municipality in Thisvi.

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO SIGN THE PETITION !!!

Perhaps you heard about the march in the port of Antikyras on the 14th of July. It was very successful because enough people participated from across the Korinthian Gulf (they had even chartered a ship to Antikyra) and went on a march to the complex of Mytilinaiou factories. There was a relatively low turnout by our own parties. There was a fairly good discussion also in Saranti and we intend to do another one in Domvraina next Saturday (August 2). We have had the idea to do something for the end of August. Obviously you know that port of Vathy is on the verge of legality. In fact, we recently learned, the Finance Ministry rejected an application from the company that manages the Industrial Zone of Thisvi, falsely claiming to be the managing body of the harbour, for legalization of the port facilities. Also, according to the ministry, the coast and the beach are communal areas whose ownership and protection is the State. That means that the manufacturers arbitrarily prohibit access and place timetables on entry and exit. In other words operate completely by betting on ignorance and fear of the locals (or even indifference). Of course, the very functioning of the port is scandalous and the threat which is posed for the Korinthian Gulf in whole.
Some of us thought we should hold a mobilization-event in the same space and assert that the industrialists
systematically violate our lands (even with expansion plans); in addition, pending any decision by the Central Archaeological Council on the proximity to the archaeological site. We therefore think it is important for us to organize a concert or a party with a strong turnout of people to shed light on this, which requires good preparation, and of course a good deal of risk. We approach you, with all our courage, for any financial aid available for the costs of mobilization. I do not know yet the cost (we will know soon) and of course I am pleased for those compatriots abroad who can join us. Maybe not need to cover this up if we have assistance of others from outside of Boeotia.
In any case, what actions you can do, do it with relative discretion to persons trusted, for obvious reasons.
We hope together.

In Loving Memory of Elysa…

Published by LG under Ειδήσεις :: News

We here at Elikona.com are very sad to announce the loss of one of our very own. Elysa F. Bardossas, one of our precious, cherished, and beloved children, left this world, yesterday, July 9th, 2008. Elysa was only 11 years old. Born in Englewood, NJ, November 4, 1996, she was a 5th grade student at Franklin School in Bergenfield, NJ. Beloved daughter of Milagros (nee Cruz) and Evangelos Bardossas. Dear sister of Evangelos, Jr. and Robert Leslie Bardossas and Kristina and Jason Francisco Molina. Cherished granddaughter of Annarosa and the late Rafael Guzman and Theodoros Bardossas and the late Frances DeRoner. Survived by an incredibly loving family.

Elysa was one of the most amazing and influential little girls you could ever meet. If you had the opportunity to get to know this adorable young lady, you were surely blessed. Elysa was the definition of joy and enthusiasm. She had a smile that warmed any heart, and a personality that brought joy to anyone who had the pleasure. She was a little angel on this earth, and those of us who had the opportunity to enjoy her company will never forget her. She was our sweet princess, our muse. She had enough heart to light up this entire world. In her short life she overcame more challenges and more hardships than one could ever imagine; and she did it with a smile. She taught us that nothing is too difficult, and anything can be overcome with the right attitude.

Elysa was last in Greece in 2004 and had a special love for the place where her Grandfather was born. She was looking forward to spending her summer vacation there next year. In lieu of this, we dedicate every upcoming event we hold in memory of this special little girl. Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the entire Bardossas family. Your loss is our loss. You are in our hearts and in our prayers. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be everlasting.

The Funeral service will be held at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield, NJ, on Saturday at 10 AM. Interment Maple Grove Cemetery, Hackensack, NJ. The family will receive friends on Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Foundation. Send a lasting condolence at riewertsmemorialhome.com .

The Latest from the Greek Front

We have learned some dire news in our fight to save our lands from environmental destruction.  Following a link to an article that one of our forum members found, Read it Here in Greek and in English, we learned that the dark dealings in our lands were agreed upon even earlier than anyone had imagined.

One of our compatriots contacted us concerning this situation.  Although the situation continues to appear as dire as it was before, there is always still hope - and we pledge to continue our fight.  Read her Letter here in Greek and English.
