Αποστολή :: Mission

Published by Panagiotis

—-Welcome Brethren, Fathers, Mothers, Cousins and fellow “Συμπατριώτες”. You have arrived at what we hope will be a gathering of friends who all have their roots in the municipality of Thisvi (Δήμος Θίσβης). There are some of us lucky enough to return there every year, and some who may not be as fortunate to visit this special place. Regardless of this, however, we all share a common tie to these villages that our grandfathers built and maintained for thousands of years.

This site will serve as a forum; a place to gather and share stories, pictures, summer plans. To meet others that have the same roots as you do, and give you a chance to reconnect with long lost friends. This all cannot happen, of course, without your participation, so we ask that you join this site, register a name (which takes all of two minutes in the forums) and join in on the conversation.

Many of us live beyond the borders of Ελλάς, and we often times might not see each other for years, convening again only on the shores of Άγιος Νικόλαος, Αλυκή, Σαράντι… But we all await those days and are overjoyed when the time comes. This place means something different for everyone, but to everyone, it touches something deep within. These villages, nestled at the foothills of the mythical and historical Mount Elikon, and shrouded by countless silver leaved olive trees, stir emotions that cannot be expressed in words.

Our fathers crossed the sea many years ago, looking for a better life, searching for an easier path for their children - and although the years have passed, the bond with this maternal soil holds strong. They put in long hours of arduous work, sweating away years of their lives, merely to give their children a fighting chance. A product of this is the strong community that has been established abroad, particularly in the United States. No matter how much time passes since the day they set sail from Πειραιά, however, we must never let the ties to our homeland wither to nothing.

This cannot happen, brethren. We must never allow this connection to deteriorate. We cannot allow our History, our Legacy, our Birth-Right… to be abolished by the ravishes of time. We cannot turn a blind eye towards the grounds that our παππούδες shed their blood for. Too much has been lost - too much has been sacrificed, for this land of Ελικώνα. It would be criminal to let our memories of this place fade away.

This site is for you. These villages are ours. Its history will be carried on by us.
